Lineolated Parakeet (Linnie)

This six inch bird is a joy to own and my favourites in the aviary which is why I have so many pairs! Most Linnies, as we call them, are friendly, clownish and great as pets. Often you will find them walking or hanging upside down on their cage and even the breeding birds are not nippy. They make the cutest wolfish calls and are great for apartments as they are not too loud. You could not ask for a nicer bird.

Their normal (standard) colour is green but there are many color mutations. Turquoise, Cobalt, Mauve, Olive, Dark Green, Lutino and Creamino are a few of the more popular colors. We are set up to breed all these colours.

Their call is a chattering sound and as a flock, they can get loud. This chatter is loud in the early and late hours of the day but in between they remain quiet unless something strange and unfamiliar enters into their sight.

The Linnie is for the person who wants a bird smaller than a Cockatiel but larger than a Finch. They do have some grooming needs though as their toe nails can grow long and will often curl. If that happens they need to be clipped so they do not get hung up on cage wire.

If you like birds you will love a Linnie. They can bring you many years of joy. I highly recommend them.

Bourke Parakeet

Bourkes are active most of the time but they are a very quiet little bird, mostly singing a little song almost like a canary at dusk & sunset. They can learn to mimic whistles such as the wolf whistle very easily. They always love to see their owners and look forward to the attention you give them! Very gentle creatures they are also great apartment pets!

Red Rump Parakeet

These birds can make a very good pet for beginners and the experienced person. They are slightly larger than an English Budgie so the cage size can be the same for them, or better yet try a Cockatiel cage...they’ll appreciate the space They are called Red Rumps as the male bird most often (and depending on mutation) has a red patch on his rump. The female of the species is usually not as strikingly coloured as the male but she’s just as friendly.

Hand-tamed Red Rumps sometimes like their heads scratched and will take food from you such as sunflowers seeds or vegetables etc. They bond to humans very well.

Abbot & Costella

Lovebirds are a very social and affectionate small parrot and are the most popular parrots kept as pets. The name Lovebird stems from the fact that these parrots are monogamous and form strong bonds with their mates for long periods of time. They are a pleasure to view and their chattering sound is comical.

Pacific Parrotlet

Like all parrots, Pacific Parrotlets are very smart. They can be taught to do tricks and to talk. Pacific Parrotlets can be delightful companions with big personalities while not requiring a huge cage and not taking a chunk out of your hand while he learns who's head of the flock. They can mimic, but the voice is very small and sometimes it is difficult to recognize words. Their curious playfulness will keep you entertained and they will be devoted companions for years to come. Not recommended for children as they do tend to be nippy.

Cockatiel

Cockatiels have personality, attitude, and agility. Originating from Australia, these birds are very popular pets. Cockatiels thrive on attention, and social interactions. Many like to be scratched under the chin, have their heads stroked or take part in a sometimes one-sided conversation. Kept as either an individual bird or a pair, Cockatiels bring much entertainment into a home. They make excellent first pets and adapt well to apartment living.

English Budgies (not to be confused with the American budgie) has fuller feathering around the face and is much larger than the American parakeet and is often used in shows & exhibitions. While Budgies are quieter than most parrot, they can be noisy with their chatter but they are extremely friendly, active & very playful. Budgies can be taught to talk although they are not always easy to understand because they have such tiny voices. Budgies are an excellent choice for someone who has never owned a bird before because they are so friendly & adaptable.
